Following the reported attacks against Ndigbo resident in Lagos State during the February 25th presidential election and coupled with the alleged threat to their lives and properties by hired thugs and supporter of one of the political parties, the mouthpiece of Ndigbo, Onu Igbo Ndigbo Gburugburu, Chief Ejike Iwu has warned that such threat, intimidation, and attacks must stop forthwith.
In a message to the media, Onu Igbo Ndigbo Gburugburu called on the federal government, Lagos State government led by Babajide Sanwo-Olu, as well as the Oba of Lagos to ensure that such threats, attacks and blackmail against Ndigbo do not continue.
He said that Ndigbo are hardworking people who strive to earn a living wherever they find themselves without disturbing anybody.
Onuigbo Ndigbo questioned what crime Ndigbo have committed for voting Peter Obi, adding that “people voted across party lines. Igbos in APC voted for Ahmed Tinubu, Igbos in PDP voted for Atiku Abubakar and Igbos in Labour Party voted Peter Obi. The same way Yorubas, Hausas voted across the Frontline candidates for the presidential election”.
Continuing, he said threatening Ndigbo because of Peter Obi is bad. “We don’t want it. They should stop burning Igbo properties and attacking them, unless their is something else outside election”.
Chief Iwu asked: “is it because Bola Ahmed Tinubu was declared the winner? Is his declaration a threat to Ndigbo? Why threatening Ndigbo, why destroying our properties? We don’t want such again anymore. If it continues then we will term it that there is a hidden agenda against Ndigbo”.
