It was a very pragmatic way of reaffirming thier unalloyed support and solidarity for the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and indeed all the candidates of the party for the 2023 General Elections as the people of Mbaitoli Local Government Area thronged en masse to welcome the campaign trail at Orie Mbieri.
Colourful, grand and exceptional, the rally kicked off with a well attended town hall meeting which included presidents general of communities, community leaders and elders, clerics, market women, traders and trade unions as well as youth leaders, the PDP campaigners took thier message of recover and rebuild to the grassroots.
Both at the town hall meeting as well as campaign rally ground, former governor of Imo State and chairman, PDP Presidential Campaign Council, PCC, Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha, tasked the people of Mbaitoli to reflect on the hardship in the land which included insecurity, joblessness, skyrocketing cost of goods in the midst of inflation and ensure that the rulling APC at the federal and state levels were voted out on February 25 and March 11, 2023.
According to him, “We are here to tell you that APC has caused hardships in the land. With APC, insecurity is in the land has increased. With APC, joblessness is everywhere. With APC, hunger and starvation are dealing with all of us. Therefore, for us to rescue Nigeria, let us vote out APC by electing Atiku as president and Nigeria will be on the right track again”.
The former deputy speaker urged the people to vote for Uche Onyeagucha to represent Imo East otherwise known as Owerri Zone, Osmond Ukanacho to represent Mbaike in the Federal House of Representatives and Okey Onyekamma to continue in the Imo State House of Assembly to speak for Mbaitoli State Constituency.
Ihedioha used the opportunity to commend Hon Onyekamma for his avowed integrity, steadfastness and support for PDP and standing for honour and constitutionalism in the of chaos and reckless attack on democracy and legislative processes.
The party secretary in Imo, Nze Ray Emeana, charged his audience to vote for all PDP candidates in all the elections in order to escape the current socio economic hardships. “If we make any mistake on February 25, which is about 10 days away, the hardship ahead will be quite dehumanizing and unbeatable”, he warned.
The deputy director general, Imo PDP PCC, Barrister Charles Babatunde Ezekwem stated why Mbaitoli and Imo State as a whole must vote for PDP, starting with Atiku. “If Atiku wins, Ihedioha will return to Imo State Government House”.
The PDP candidates namely Ukanacho and Onyekamma took to the podium to address the audience, soliciting thier support and votes.
Onyeagucha, Ihedioha explained, was indisposed, hence his unavoidable absence for the rally.
Members of the State Working Committee (SWC) and the State Executives of the PDP were present at the rally.
