July 4 (Newshour.com.ng) – The Imo State Council of Town Unions President-Generals has called on the President of the Court of Appeal to bring back the Election Petition Tribunal which was recently moved from Imo to Nassarawa State.
The Statement signed by the President of the Imo State Council of Town Unions President-Generals,Hon. Kingsley Chigozie Omuruka read,”we are not happy with the decision to relocate National Assembly/Imo State House of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal out of Owerri, the capital city of Imo State to Nassarawa State, and we are condemning that action in its entirety.
The decision is very inimmical to Imo people and a misrepresentation of the actual state of affairs in Imo State with regards to the hitherto politically motivated insecurity which has become a history. We note that in Imo State,all cadres of courts under the constitution are in session. The magistrate courts are sitting, the customary courts are sitting, the State High Court is sitting. The customary court of Appeal,Imo State is sitting and Federal High Court,Owerri Division is sitting, and indeed, the National/State Assembly Election Petition Tribunal has been sitting in Owerri for over two months now”.
“In view of the above,we are hereby demand that the Panel for National/State Assembly Election Petition Tribunal constituted for Imo State should return and resume sitting in Owerri,Imo State as soon as possible.
We, the entire PGs of the Town Unions in Imo State are hereby appreciate the efforts and achievements of His Excellency,Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma in his collaboration with Federal Government security agencies in tackling insecurity to the barest minimum. And we can further guarantee that there is peace and security in Imo State”.
