May 16 (Newshour.com.ng) – The State Director of National Population Commission, Imo State, Barr. Ike Justice U. Mayor, has called on Imolites at home and abroad to make themselves available in the forthcoming census exercise for their own benefit.
He noted that population is the major instrument for job creation, provision of societal amenities, policy making among others.
Barr. Mayor disclosed this during an interview with journalists in his office last Thursday in Owerri, He explained that the introduction of digital Census will produce accurate and verifiable Census, adding that before the postponement of the Census the Commission has been able to conduct area demarcation with enumeration area.
According to him, the Commission has made some preparation for the Census, “we have conducted pretest of the device, personal digital assistant and also conducted a trial Census giving some of the local government, there will be housing and population Census which will ensure household lifting and house numbering, will take the first seven days while the actual person to person counting will last between 4-5 days, it is important to note that, this will enhance infrastructural investment across the 27 local government areas of Imo State, the one that is lacking they will take most of them so that government can cooperate items like electricity, water, road and others within the census period”.
