2023: Ikenga Johnjude Okere wins Accord governorship ticket

By Kate Toochi

May 12 (Newshour.com.ng) – A body known as Imo Integrity Mirror (IINTEM), has made it clear that for any charter of equity in terms of governorship zoning, such drive must favour the Owerri Zone.

According to the convener, Imo Integrity Mirror (IITEM), Chief Emma Uloegbu, stated in Owerri, the Imo State capital, that any charter of equity concerning the November 11, 2023 governorship election must tilt in the direction of Owerri Zone.
According to him, “It is quite disturbing that some members of APC Elders Council shamelessly endorsed Governor Hope Uzodimma for a second tenure. Uzodimma hails from Orlu Zone that has produced governors for 20 years out of 24. On what grounds will that stand? It is possible.
“The truth is, no charter of equity will ever work unless it supports or endorses the emergence of an Owerri ward, a candidate for the November 11 election. The reason for this is simple. Owerri Zone has had only seven months in 24 years, while Okigwe Zone has enjoyed full term of four years – the rest 20 years were occupied by Orlu. Therefore, for equity in the real sense of it, Owerri Zone is the most favoured”.
Uloegbu noted that as it favoured Owerri Zone so also it favoured Ikenga Johnjude Okere, from Ngor Okpala Local Government Area in Owerri Zone.
He said, “As far as we are concerned, there is only one credible governorship candidate for the Imo State election in November. He is Ikenga Johnjude Okere of the Accord party. He is from Ngor Okpala LGA that has not produced any governor, has not produced any deputy governor, has not produced any senator, that has not produced any minister, that has not even produced any speaker.
“Since we are looking for a credible candidate with competence, character and competence, our best choice is Ikenga Johnjude because he is the most qualified. It must be pointed out that Ngor Okpala suffers the same fate as Owerri Zone. Since there is Ikenga Johnjude, we are morally bound to support him to victory”.
