Owerri, April 15 (Newshour.com.ng) – The people of Ihiagwa Autonomous Community in Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State, have cried out to the Governor, Sen Hope Uzodimma to declare a state of emergency on the dilapidated portion of the Nekede -Ihiagwa -Obinze road.

“Obviously, the government has done the major work on the Naze -Nekede -Ihiagwa -Obinze road. What is remaining is a very short distance between Ihiagwa and FUTO, together with a collapsed bridge still under constructiin”, Udokporo revealed.
According to the community, the road deserves urgent attention due to the rainy season, adding that people no longer come to invest in the community and existing businesses have collapsed due to low patronage.
The ITMC Chairman further revealed that many women in labour had lost their babies and the sick die “on regular basis as doctors/nurses cannot reach them when needed due to poor accessibility”.
Continuing, the community lamented the poor state of the road, stating that the road is a strategic one that should be among the best due to the presence of federal institutions like Federal University of Technology (FUTO) and Federal Polytechnic Nekede as well as being part of the Imo Ring road that connects other major communities in Owerri West LGA.
Ihiagwa people also used the opportunity to extoll Governor Uzodimma for his efforts in Imo, especially in seeing reasons to commence the road work, adding that the 3R administration of the governor is all about Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Recovery even as they pledged thier cooperation to him.
