August 22 (Newshour.com.ng) – The labour party embattled candidate, Athan Achonu has flagged off his campaign for the upcoming November 11th governorship election in Imo state.
The event which witnessed a large turn out of people including the incoming president of Nigeria, His Excellency, Mr Peter Gregory Obi and the executive governor of Abia State, H.E. Mr Alex Otti.
But the labour party senator, Ezenwa Onyewuchi, the senatorial candidates and other candidates of the party at the just concluded National Assembly and the houses of Assembly elections were conspicuously absent.
Speaking during the event, Mr Peter Obi said he believes in the process of getting anything done adding that Athan Achonu emerged as the candidate of labour party through a transparent process and that was why he supports his governorship ambition. He noted that through labour party Nigeria would be transformed and that he would transform Nigeria and make it a better place for all of us to enjoy. He stressed that he knows the problem of Nigeria and would be able to solve the problem.
On the other hand, he noted that Governor Alex Otti has started on the transformation agenda by speedily transforming Abia State within 100 days in office adding that if Athan Achonu is voted into power during the November 11th governorship elections’, he would continue likewise as that is the standard of labour party. He called on Imo electorate to vote for labour party.
Governor Alex Otti in his speech said he was the one who conducted the labour party primaries and averred that nobody bribed them during the primary elections. He affirmed that Athan Achonu emerged transparently in a free and fair primaries and should be supported by other candidates.
Sen. Achonu who received labour party flag from the national chairman of labour party, Julius Abure said he would transform Imo state if voted into power through job creation, industrialization, fighting insecurity etcetera. He promised to electrify Imo state within the first 100 days in office.
The national chairman of labour party, Julius Abure said Athan Achonu is the authentic candidate of labour party and urged all labour party faithful to support him during the upcoming November elections as all the big weights in labour party are behind him.
The deputy governorship candidate of labour party, Tony Nwulu who conducted a minute silence for all the people who were killed because of insecurity thanked the labour party national leadership for honouring their invitation.
