June 20 (Newshour.com.ng) – The Critical Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Imo State Chapter, have asked Board of Trustrees, Peoples Democratic Party to rescue the party from total destruction, as the party in the state in recent time witnessed mass defections to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
In a petition signed by Comrade Kenneth Chukwuemeka Akunnakwe, spokesperson, Critical Stakeholders of Imo PDP to the chairman, Board of Trustrees, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Wadata Plaza, Abuja captioned “NWC’s impunity and time to rescue PDP from total destruction”. They accused the National Working Committee of negligent in the crisis ravaging the party in the state.
See the petition below:
The Chairman,
Board of Trustees,
People’s Democratic Party, PDP,
Wadata Plaza,
Abuja.
Sir,
NWC’s impunity and time to rescue PDP from total destruction
It is apparently unfathomable how our great party, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, once the biggest party in the black world, most admired in Africa and most followed in Nigeria has been deplorably allowed to descend from its olympian height of greatness to base degrees of inanities. How are the mighty fallen indeed!
We, the Critical Stakeholders of Imo State PDP, have followed dejectedly how our hitherto respected party, with all its intimidating credentials and gracious appeal, is systematically and speedily being annihilated by lower forces it previously trampled upon.
After critically analyzing the sordid affairs which are currently suffocating our great party into a mere boys club, we came to the honest conclusion that the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) should be blamed for the unfathomable rot ravaging our once great national party.
The basis and stand of the Critical Stakeholders for pointing at the door steps of the NWC for the decline in PDP’s fortunes are not far to fetch. They are as follows:
(1). Never in the history of the PDP has its NWC been so complacent that it does not take interest in matters affecting and destroying the party nationwide. We have been crying out loudly about the horrible situation in Imo State where our governorship candidate for the November 11, 2023 election, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, is a known mole of the All Progressive Congress (APC), even as he had been working to tear the party apart. For months now, the NWC has not given a hoot about investigating our claims or moving to call Senator Anyanwu to order.
(1b). We vividly recall with absolute consternation that through the entire period of presidential campaigns, Senator Anyunwu, as the National Secretary of our dear party never attended any of the rallies organized in Imo State on behalf of our presidential candidate, His Excellency, Atiku Abubakar. He neither sent representatives nor sent reasons for his absences. We sought for reasons and queried why the National Secretary who incidentally hails from Imo State and ought to have added strength and excitement to our functions was conspicuously missing. Yet, the NWC never saw any reason to respond to those nauseating issues.
(1c) As you read this, Senator Anyanwu is still going on consultation that is normally carried out before the governorship primary election. This shows his gross incapacitation and lack of vision, yet he is the candidate of PDP in an election just a few months away.
(1d). And now the earthquake that shook the foundation of Imo PDP last weekend where seven important members of our State Working Committee (SWC) members resigned, blaming Senator Anyanwu as the reason for their action.
Among the seven are the workaholic secretary, Nze Ray Emeana., the enterprising deputy chairman, Sir Martin Ejiogu., his highly cerebral publicity secretary, Collins Opurozor., ever charismatic woman leader, Maria Ibekwe., as well as the treasurer and a zonal chairman.
We also learnt that several of our executive members at the ward and LGA levels would soon exit the party in droves.
We have asked this question and we want to reiterate here for emphasis: why are our members massively leaving the party since the emergence of Senator Samuel Anyanwu as candidate for the November 11 governorship election?
(2). As we all can evidently testify, the current lack-lustre NWC is the same one that abysmally failed to manage the party’s 2023 presidential campaigns., clearly mishandled the vice presidential candidate selection process; disappoingly fluffed our 2023 successes through its wrong supervision of governorship primaries across the states. Of particular dismay, and this is quite distressful, we are talking about a NWC that unimaginably could not adequately respond to the challenge manufactured by the G5 – Governors. We are bringing to the fore, the complicity of some members where handshakes were monetized outrageously while the grandstanding NWC could not muster enough courage to sanction erring senior members of PDP who found it convenient joining opposition elements at the detriment of the party.
We, the Imo PDP Critical Stakeholders are therefore constrained to submit the following prayers to the BOT of this party as follows:
(A) The BOT as esteemed leaders should urgently call for an emergency national convention that will oversee the dissolution of the NWC and immediately re-constitute a new and expectedly a more vibrant National Working Committee. The essence of an emergency national convention is to elect new NWC that will pilot PDP out of its present purposeless drift.
(B) We call on the BOT to painstakingly look into our lamentations and requests as presented overleaf and seek for the best formal ways of tackling them for the interest of the party and good of all of us. PDP really needs a new beginning.
Singed:
Comrade Kenneth Chukwuemeka Akunnakwe,
Spokesperson, Critical Stakeholders of Imo State PDP.
