The People’s Redemption Party (PRP), Imo State Chapter, Thursday held its state summit on membership drive.
The event which took place at the Okigwe Road, Owerri party secretariat was massively attended by party officials and women leaders at the various local government levels. The event it was learned is a nationwide program in which the various states are taking their turn to conduct
The South East Zonal Chairman of the party, Hon Peter Okafor, who presided over the program alongside the state chairman, Hon Uchechukwu Isiodu, said it was all about improving the strength of the party by dragging in more members.
According to him, “we are bringing in more people and telling them about the manifestoes of the party, what the party is all about, that is what we are doing in the whole country and Imo is doing their own today.
“A lot of people are embracing this party because they have discovered that the APC, the PDP cannot give them what they want. It is a party free from corruption, we don’t have split or factions in our party, what you see is only one PRP everywhere”
Okafor who was the former state chairman also stated that a similar exercise for the drive would be held at the local government level, the wards and polling units all designed to create more awareness.
He expressed optimism that the party will form the next government come 2023 and urged the members to work hard in selling the party to the people.
In his own remarks, the state chairman, Isiodu, while describing the party as one of the oldest political party in the country explained that the flagging of the second phase of the membership drive is to “bring back some of our lost member”
He urged the members to go and pick up their voter’s card because according to him it is their licence to change Nigeria. Isiodu described the party’s manifestoes as very rich and has all it takes to deliver Nigeria from all its travails.
A former returning officer of the party for Oyo State and one time State Congress Secretary, Ambassador Ifeanyi Eluwa Henry described PRP as a disciplined party which members are never lured by filthy lucre or corrupt practices.
He recounted that during the party congress of the party it was conducted peacefully without rancour, without any form of money changing hands while the party members were rewarded with their stipends and transport expenses much later without any fight.
Eluwa said the peaceful conduct of the Oyo congress attracted commendations from not only INEC officials but local radio stations who invited them to discuss their magic.
