Improvised Explosive Devices Attacks Remain Bane Of Security in Nigeria – Chief of Army Sfaff

By Princess-Ekwi Ajide , Abuja

Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, CDS, General Lucky Irabor, says attacks with Improvised Explosive Devices, have remained the greatest challenge especially in the North East Region of the country.

The CDS, who was reacting to allegations that Nigeria military lacks modern equipment for operation at the Defence Media Operations bi-weekly press briefing at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja, said oftentimes, claims of what an equipment can do; surpasses what it actually does.

He noted that presently, there is no equipment used for detecting Improvised Explosive Devices that has been assessed to be effective that Nigeria Military does not have only that every operative equipment in itself has one or more defects which sometimes becomes inimical to the objective of the operation.

According to him, they would love to make greater progress in addressing Improvised Explosive Devices incidents since they desire to prevent any form of incident that can lead to violence and blood shed.

The CDS, emphasised that security is the duty of all since every Nigerian is a stakeholder irrespective of age, gender or status and charged the citizenry to contribute to ensuring that criminals around them are exposed and punished. Warning them to be wary of working for bandits unknowingly by hoarding information that could have assisted troops in their operations.

He also cautioned politicians to be mindful of their actions to the build up of the 2023 general elections as Nigeria is and will remain a peaceful nation and will not allow criminals perpetrate evil in the land.

Earlier, the Director Defence Media Operations, Major General Bernard Oyeuko, had given updates on the operational activities and the successes recorded by the troops from 2 – 16 June 2022.

He said the Armed Forces of Nigeria and other security agencies are working assiduously to ensure the safety of lives and property of Nigerians as they have intensified efforts in both kinetic and non kinetic in the fight against terrorism, economic saboteurs, banditry and sundry crimes in the theatres of Operations in some parts of the country.
