May 23 (Newshour.com.ng) – A group, Odimma Orsu Initiative has appealed to all the armed militias gangs operating in Orsu Local Government Area to drop their guns and embraced peace.
The group stated this in a communique issued at the end of Stakeholders Summit organised by the umbrella body of Odimma Orsu Initiative in Owerri recently.
The summit which aimed at finding a lasting solution to the lingering security challenges ravaging Orsu LGA.
The Communique which was signed by the Chairman of Odimma Orsu Initiative, Eze Ezekiel Ifeanyi Nwokedi, Eze elect and Barr. Remi Ezedioramma Agwuezie, Secretary respectively and made available to newsmen, called on the militia to embrace peace.
The communique states as follows; “The hallmark of Odimma Orsu Initiative, is Peace and Love based on this and the light of the Stakeholders Summit we formally adopted the Interim Executive and admin to pilot the affairs of the Organisation in the course of our struggle to bring back peace in Orsu land.
” In our depth of heart and humanity, we the leaders of Orsu are pleading to all the armed militias gangs operating under whatever names, for whatsoever agitations or reasons are request to sheath their swords and take the advantage of amnesty already granted by the state government.
” Please let them surrender their arms and summit themselves to the local authorities within two Weeks and say what they want we are ready for the dialogue for peace to be restored in Orsu.
“We are pleading with a sincere and broken heart in the altar of truth to all “Umuoma” to drop their arms and repent for the sack of God for our people wet their pillows with tears daily not knowing when hopelessness situation will be over because every community are affected, thousands of Orsu people has lost their beloved ones in cold blood as a of insecurity in the area.
“We the Odimma Orsu Initiative, request to the government to assist us in removing the burnt down and abandoned vehicles, gates and tenches used by ” Umuoma” as barricades our roads. The summit equally resolved to request government to gazette the amnesty programme for the repentant youths to give it the needed legal backing. ” All the communities in Orsu to bring up the names of repentant “Umuoma” to the Odimma Orsu Initiative, for onward submission to government for the purposes of amnesty programm

Finally, to tackle the insecurity, the summit adopted the setting up of a united Vigilante outfit that will partner with the security agencies to restore peace in Orsu land because we have no other home.
The summit was convened by the leadership of the Organisation including traditional rulers, political office holders, captain of industries, professionals and bureaucrats critically analyzed the lingering insecurity in the area which has led to wanton loss of human lives, destruction of properties and destabilization of economic activities for the past three year
