June 20 (Newshour.com.ng) – “Vote me as the next Imo State governor and I will transform, resuscitate as well as rebuild our traditional markets”. Those were the words of Ikenga Johnjude Okere, the Accord governorship candidate for the November 11, 2023 election.
Speaking with selected market women, traders and youth leaders in Owerri during an interactive session, the Accord governorship candidate revealed that he would give Imo rural markets a face lift.
“Several years ago, our traditional markets were very clean, today, they are dirty. About 30 years ago, our traditional markets were sparkling with iron sheets, strong poles, today, they are in the shambles.
“I can tell you authoritatively that all these our traditional markets like Eke Attah, Nkwo Emeke, Ekeukwu, Afor Ogbe, Afor Enyiogugu, Nkwoala Umuokirika, etc, were all in good conditions but now you know their respective poor situations.
“My pledge is, when elected, my administration will ensure a massive transformation of our rural markets by providing standard infrastructure and modern facilities to make things easier for our traders, market women and youths who are involved in commerce”.
He promised that the idea of trading along the roads while the markets were empty was gone.
