Owerri, April 18 (Newshour.com.ng) – Jubilation enveloped Owerri City, the state capital, yesterday, as the sole aspirant, Dr. Nkemdi Chino Opara, was unanimously voted for as a candidate, by the party’s chosen delegates, to fly its flag on the Nov. 11th Governorship Election, in Imo state.
The election which was conducted at the links Hotel, Owerri, was supervised by the party National Executive, led by the National Secretary, Rt.Hon. Vidiyeno H.Bamaiyi, who equally served as the returning officer.
Speaking before the commencement of the election, the YPP State Chairman, Hon. Victor Chidi Diala, commended the possessed decent qualities of their sole aspirant, Nkemdi Opara, for the state Governorship position whose election comes up on the 11th April, 2023. He submitted that Dr.Nkemdi has a great intellectual capacity known all over the world, which the party believes he would use to sanitize the humanly created disrepair in the state, stressing that Imo state was not created to be a begging state, but maintained that its sorry position was unfortunately instituted by bad governance .
He frowned at a situation where Imo has been governed by
people without a known address. He assured the readiness of the Young Progressive Party(YPP) to tackle the existing insecurity in the state, expressing that Nkemdi possesses character, competence and confidence needed to liberate the state.
The chairman acknowledged that the chosen electoral process in selecting Nkemdi Opara was Option A4 to show transparency and fairness.
The election which commenced with the accreditation of the 166 delegates from the party finally produced Dr. Nkemdi Chino Opara as the party candidate with 145 Votes.
Presenting his post election speech, Opara expressed delight for his emergence as the Party Candidate, positing that he will use his wealth of experience in various spheres of life to rebuild the state if he becomes the governor. He maintained his readiness to use his founded Foundation to help humanity in the state. He asked people not to give another chance to the present government so as to prevent further bastardization of the state economy.
