Owerri, April 15 (Newshour.com.ng) – It was all round excitement in Ofekata Orodo Autonomous Community in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State as HRH Engr Marcel Uzegbu was coronated at the Okata II of the community.
The ceremony which took place on Saturday April 8, 2023 at the Community School Ofekata Orodo had men, women, youths and children in attendance.
Speaking with newsmen earlier, HRH Eze Uzegbu said his kingship was foretold by some men and women of God.
According to the royal father, he said he had earlier bluntly rejected the offer because he was not interested in the throne. “I said no that is not why I was doing all i was doing for the community”, he said.
The American trained Engineer revealed that he had to accept the offer because it is also service to the people, adding that “when you extend self beyond self, God rewards you.
“I believe in what I can do for my community and not what I can take from my community”.
Eze Uzegbu who said his coronation is the last he will witness in Ofekata expressed desire.to take his people to the Promised Land, assuring that they will work make the community a mini city.
In his address at the coronation ceremony, President General of Ofekata Orodo Autonomous Community, Chief Ndudiri Oparaeke said the coronation proper is the conclusion of the journey that started since 2019 after the demise of the former traditional ruler, late Eze Edward Nwosu Nwaokorie.
Chief Oparaeke said the people will remain grateful to God for choosing Eze Uzegbu as their royal father, describing him as a man of equity,, justice and fairness with the fear of God.
The President General commended the people of Ofekata for their support and efforts towards the success of the coronation, soliciting their support to their new king.
Performing the coronation proper, the Archbishop of Owerri Catholic Archdiocese, His Grace Archbishop Lucius Ugorji urged the new traditional ruler to rule with the fear of God.
The prelate assured that God will bless the Ofekata Orodo Autonomous Community with peace as the king is enthroned in the name of God Almighty.
Other high net worth personalities were at the coronation ceremony, which include Mrs Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, first lady of Ondo State, Chief Olusola Oke SAN and wife, Chief Samuel Anyanwu, PDP National Secretary among others.
The newly crowned traditional ruler performed his first royal duty by conferring chieftaincy titles on some personalities.
