Ngor Okpala community protests poor handling of ISOPADEC project

The people of Elelem in Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State are up in arms, protesting the poor handling of an Imo State Oil Producing Area Development Community (ISOPADEC) project.
According Eke Onyike, an indigene of the area: “This project is only meant for oil producing villages that have boundaries with Rivers State. That is, villages like Okwuruma in Obike and one in Umuoka Elelem. This project in question is estimated at about N20m. I can tell you that other beneficiaries have got their projects commissioned. However, what you only see at this project at Umuoka is the sign post. The meaning of the sign post is just to tell the public that this particular project was to be done at Ogbakoro Umuoka Elelem”.
Another respondent, Chief Ukandu Anyalewechi, noted that the community was very angry because the masses were suspecting foul play involving those concerned in the project. According to him, the bore hole at Ogbakoro Elelem was meant for the entire Elelem community even as it was done and commissioned by Hon.Bede Eke.
Anyalewechi maintained that indications were strong that some highly placed persons in the community might have embezzled or misappropriated the funds mapped out for the project. He said, “The fact remains that some high and mighty have diverted fund meant for the project to their personal accounts”.
It is interesting to note that Hon. Godson Eboh, the councilor representing Ward 2 Obike and Elelem, was in involved in the commissioning of the Obike project even as some other group commissioned Ekeh’s project at Elelem Market instead of Ogbakoro Umuoka Elelem.
