A group known as Oganihu Mbaise, has vowed to support candidates who have the interests of Mbaise at their hearts.
The group said over the years, it has observed with regret and disappointment the way politicians come to Mbaise to seek their support before election and make promises which are usually abounded as soon as the election is concluded
The group stated this during a historic political sensitization/town hall meeting it organised last week at Ezuruezu Mbaise, opposite Aboh Mbaise boys secondary School.
In his keynote address, President- General of Oganihu Mbaise, Amb. Chinedum Anowuru , stated that it is “very sad to observe consciously that while our representatives in the three LGAs have been coming in and out since 1999, none had gingered the process of recovering the dilapidating roads within and around the LGAs, look at the road entering the Aboh Mbaise LGA headquarters, that of Ezinihitte LGA headquarters, where are our representatives while the Ahiara Junction to Ngor-Okpala Road is devastating, but for the singular efforts of an illustrious son- High Chief Barr. Emma Njoku, this road cut across the three LGas as well as Ngor-Okpala”.
“We have resolved that the people’s votes and support should no longer be taken for granted, each candidate who seeks the people’s votes must commit in advance to work for them in the areas of attracting infrastructural development, quality representation in the three legislative houses (Senate, House of Representatives and Imo State House of Assembly), attraction of constituency projects, the siting of which will be discussed with the people before implementation in a democratic and transparent manner”, he added.
He further informed that a feedback mechanism under which each political office holder will meet with his/her constituents on a half yearly basis to brief them on achievements and challenges in the area of sponsorship of people oriented bills and motions, projects attracted to his/her constituency and future plans and so on
In his remarks, the serving senator and candidate of LP Imo East Senatorial District, Sen. Ezenwa Onyewuchi, outlined his achievements, and what he intends doing for Mbaise if elected.
Also speaking, a frontline politician, former SGI, Hon. Barr. Uche Onyeaguocha who is the PDP candidate for Owerri Senatorial Zone, said Mbaise people not having internet in the Senate does not mean that they do not “have capable men or women to represent them-that is why I will make sure that if I emerge Owerri Zone Senator I will become the campaign DG to make sure Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha becomes the Governor of Imo State”.
He also noted that Mbaise nation should have at least 3 tertiary institutions and promised to convert Ahiara Technical College into polytechnic among others.
However, other candidates in attendance included Hon. Nnanna Igbokwe, Hon. Mike Nwachukwu who spoke volumes of what they will do for the people if voted in.
