As the contest for the Owerri zone senate seat hots up, one of the contestants to the position, Prince Hillary Ugochukwu Nwachukwu has taken a step forward to approach those who hold the levers of power in the constituency and the state.
Nwachukwu who is running under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) approached the two groups Tuesday during which he bared his mind on his ambition even as he solicited for their support.
It would be recalled that the primary elections have been scheduled to hold not later than June 3 according to Independent National Electoral Commissions (INEC) time table. As a result candidates are utilizing every available opportunity to sell themselves and their programs.
The aspirant disclosed that he has what it takes to lead the zone well in the senate adding that he is accessible and that makes him very acceptable. Said he, “even the opposition will vote for me”
Speaking he stated that “I have come here today to formally unveil myself and say what others have been saying, I mean the majority of Owerri people and what they have been singing I want to reveal it now.
“The majority of Owerri people are saying that you people should give them Sly because they say that Sly has the energy that Sly is reachable, that Sly has been there not today but from even the time I cannot remember. Today I have come to thank everyone for accepting us. I am here to ask you people to pray for me
“The people have suffered. There has been no representation. I am promising that when I am in the Senate I will mount a big office here for people to access easily so they can tell us how to run, how to represent.”
He noted that it has been the tradition of former representatives to run once they climb the seat. In his words, ‘’I will not come and run. I have come here to ask you to please make me your bench mark. If you do that I will never disappoint you.”
The state chairman of the party Dr. Macdonald Ebere affirmed him and asked those who are leading him to be steadfast in their support because according to him integrity and sincerity should be the hallmark of good politician.
The Owerri zonal chairman also commended him for the effort in approaching them insisting that they are going to be fair and impartial in their assessment of who represents them. He however, acknowledged him as a good material.
The State Co-ordinator of Ugo Sly campaign organization, Barr, Kingsley Uju and the Director General Chief Chibututu respectively expressed that they have a good material in their candidate who does not need any panel beating of any kind to market. They pleaded for the support of the people to vote for him
