August 22 (Newshour.com.ng) – The presidential candidate of Labour party, Peter Obi has endorsed Athan Achonu as the authentic candidate of the party in Imo state for the Nov 11 governorship election.
Speaking at the Flag off of the campaign of the governorship candidate held at Kanu Nwankwo stadium in Owerri, Obi disclosed that the Labour party primaries produced Achonu as the only candidate for the governorship election. He stated that the candidate has the full support of the party, therefore any other individual claiming to have the ticket of the party is fake.
Obi explained that the National chairman of the party Julius Abure set up a panel led by the governor of Abia state, Alex Otti to determine the authentic winner confirmed Athan Achonu as the candidate.
Obi further reiterates that Nigeria need leaders that will keep to their campaign promises and assured of the determination of the party to change the situation of the country so that the masses can hive a sign of relief.
Peter said it takes a lot to change Nigeria and promised to fulfil the promises he made to the people and called for Imo citizens to vote massively for the party during the Nov 11 governorship election.
Also speaking, the governor of Abia State who headed the panel that finally produced Athan Achonu as the party candidate said the party has no other candidate apart from Achonu and urged Imo people to vote for him as he has lots of programs and projects to execute for the betterment of the state.
Speaking, the governorship candidate, Athan Achonu, said he would make Imo a safe place if elected governor of the state.
He resolved to tackle insecurity that has rendered the state unsafe, adding that he would bring development, address the issue of unemployment, grant LGA autonomy and will not divert LGA funds.
He urged Imo people to vote for Labour party so as to bring good governance accountability and transparency in government.
He stressed that the LGA elections in the state will be free and fair whereby people will vote in their candidates irrespective of the party.
Achonu who frowned at the situation of the state vowed to build health centres across the wards of the state and revive the Imo cargo air port to boost the economy.
He also promised to ensure prompt payment of workers salaries and pension amongst other programmes and projects.
Speaking also his deputy, Tony Nwulu said Labour party has come to change the narrative in the state and called for massive votes from Imo citizens.
