August 9 (Newshour.com.ng) – A group of concerned Imo citizens have condemned the harassment, and intimidation of opposition political parties by the All Progressives Congress leadership in Imo State. They described the police invitation of Imo State People’s Democratic Party Deputy Governorship Candidate Rt. Hon. Jones Onyeriri as a distraction and indication of the growing popularity of PDP’s choice in the 11 November, 2023 governorship election.
On Tuesday, August 8, 2023. Imo State Police Command through the Human Right Unit invited Hon. Jones Onyeriri on a Petition of allegations of defamation of character by the defected former members of PDP State Working Committee that the Party on a press conference accused them of fraudulent looting of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s Campaign money over 1 billion Naira.
During the cross examination Imo police Command was able to establish that Hon Onyeriri was nether a member of PDP State Working Committee or the Chairman of the Atiku Abubakar’s Campaign Organization and expressed confidence in the Deputy Governorship Candidate Hon. Onyeriri person.
Speaking to the party faithful shortly after his release, Hon. Onyeriri said that the action of those against them to take over Imo State Government House after November 11 have been uncovered to use every available means of distractions mechanisms but it was also an indelible assurance of the party success come November 11 Governorship election.
He further expressed satisfactions with the utmost professionalism exhibited by the Imo State Police Command ranging from the Human Right Unit to the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP respectively.
He pointed out that Police have admitted as a working document the video clips of the purported press conference to see the issues raised by the defected members of the State Working Committee as seven of them jointly signed the petition.
