Road show: IMO NPC embarks on 2023 census sensitization

By Ikechukwu Ozurumba

To ensure every citizen is counted in the April 2023 National Population and Housing Head Count (CENSUS), the Imo State National Population Commission (NPC)  in conjunction with National Orientation Agency, Federal Road Safety Corp, Civil Defence,  Nigeria Police, NURTW and other sister agencies, embarked on a Road work aimed at sensitising the masses on the forthcoming 2023 National Population Census.

The collaboration of  NPC and other sister  agencies for the Road show was an exciting one, where major roads across  the Owerri municipal where visited , distribution of fliers to the masses for information and directions on the Census.

Some residents of Owerri who displayed non–challant attitudes towards the Census, were properly guided through the talk show of the commission led by the Director Barr. Ike Justice,  who pleaded for their understanding of the realities and need for Participation in the upcoming April 2023 event.

The Director,  Barr. Ike Justice,  who represented  Prof. Uba Nnabue,  the Federal Commissioner of the  State NPC, in his address recently during the Road show, he outlined disadvantages derivable with non– participation as the government would assume that there were no person in those area if not counted, and such would spell doom for their future.

The State Director of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) Mrs Maureen Opara, in her reaction expressed worries that most Nigerians still do not understand the relevance and need for participation in the 2023 Census.

Mrs Opara,  disclosed that her office is already embarking on an intensive sensitization and enlightenment programme for Traditional rulers and Community Leaders to ensure that the 2023 Census programme is successful.
